Happy May Day ~ Francophile Style

by Carolyn

It is said that the French tradition of giving lovely little lily of the valley on May Day began all the way back to May 1, 1561 when King Charles IX of France was given a sprig of the lovely and sweet smelling blooms as a token of luck. Every year from then after the King presented the ladies of his court bunches of lily of the valley on May 1st to wish them luck and prosperity in the new spring season, and the tradition continues to this day.

So, on this slightly overcast May Day we want to share with you our favorite little cluster of beautiful lily of the valley, and wish you luck and prosperity in life and in love this spring!
